Only the good die young
jewel January 24th, 2008
It’s been all over the news the past couple of days. There has been no escaping it. Heath Ledger is dead of, thus far, unknown causes. It makes me a bit sad, actually. When I got home on Tuesday and turned on my computer and started reading the news headlines, there it was. I was shocked. I’ve got to say, of all the celebrities that I would expect to hear such news about, Heath Ledger was not one of them.
He was just coming into his own, as it were. His roles were varied and challenging. He didn’t seem to want to do the same type of things all the time. I liked that about him. One of my very favorite actors is Johnny Depp. I like him because he can make any character seem believable. He is edgy and versatile (and damn fine looking, too). Heath, had he lived, would have no doubt made it to the top of my favorite list. I certainly have liked the movies I’ve seen him in and I’ve enjoyed what he brought to the roles he played.
Like the rest of the world, I want to know what caused his death. He was so very young. Too young.
What actually prompted this blog entry, I had not planned to blog about this, was reading earlier today that the Westboro Baptist Church is planning on exercising their usual poor taste and picket his funeral – because he played a gay character in Brokeback Mountain. Those folks must me completely miserable to have such little empathy for grieving friends and families of the deceased. That they are completely off their rockers, goes without saying. I wish there was a Hell just for Fred Phelps and his followers.
I’ve never met Heath Ledger, but I did enjoy his movies and I’m looking forward to seeing The Dark Knight. My heart goes out to his family and friends and I am saddened that his daughter, who he adored, will have to grow up without knowing her father.

An informative take on the accidental drug overdose scenario can be found at the ScienceBlogs site DrugMonkey. While it will be a couple weeks before we have any more information on what caused Heath Ledger’s death, I am glad that someone at ScienceBlogs addressed the science aspect. I wish the press would have.
