The Ballad of Tux
jewel March 11th, 2008
Ok, so yesterday I took some pictures of my desk toys at work for my photography class. One of the pictures was of my little Tux penguin with his Jayne hat. For those of you who do not know what a Jayne hat is, you’re severely lacking your Firefly requirement, in which case run – don’t walk to your nearest video store and buy it. Or order it from Amazon. Seriously. Go.
But I digress….
Anyway, I came home from class and rewrote the lyrics to the Ballad of Jaynestown. It’s pretty silly, but here ya go.
Tux, the penguin called Tux
He came onto the field
And he knew the score
Stood up to Bill Gates
And gave him what for
Our love for him now
Goes beyond his good looks
The hero of Linux
The penguin called TuxOur Tux saw the pc’s breakin’
He saw the geeks lament
And he saw Microsoft takin’
Every dollar and makin’ no sense
So he said “you can’t do that to my people”
He said “you can’t crush them under your heel”
So Tux strapped on his hat
And in 5 seconds flat
Created a new OS with zealHe came onto the field
And he knew the score
Stood up to Bill Gates
And gave him what for
Our love for him now
Goes beyond his good looks
The hero of Linux
The penguin called TuxNow here is what separates heroes
From common folk like you and I
The penguin called Tux
He hit the books
And let that Linux OS fly
He dropped it onto our servers
He dropped it into our PC’s
The penguin called Tux
Our pain he went and took
And gave us our OS for freeHe came onto the field
And he knew the score
Stood up to Bill Gates
And gave him what for
Our love for him now
Goes beyond his good looks
The hero of Linux
The penguin called Tux!

Yay for Tux!
Hardcore Linux user here
Sadly, there are still a couple things I need Windblows for. But only a couple, so I’ll likely make the switch myself before long.
Loved Firefly the series. Hated Serenity the movie.
The series, was indeed far superior. I liked the movie, ok, but most of that, I think, was getting to see one of the pre-screenings. That was just a fun experience all around. I’m pretty luke-warm to the movie overall.
