New York, I am proud of you!

I wasn’t sure it was actually going to happen, since they have a Republican majority in the senate and the past couple days the vote looked like it was going to be really close; and it was. But New York sided with equality by recognizing that consenting adults of either sex should be allowed to marry. Thank you New York! And kudos to Mark Grisanti, who took his religion out of the equation when he cast the deciding vote in the affirmative:
“If I take the Catholic out of me, which is hard to do, then absolutely they should have these rights”, Grisanti said.
Now if only California and the other 43 states would join the 21st century.
For those opposed to gay marriage, I have only 2 questions:
- What, exactly, is it you’re afraid of?
- Taking religion out of the equation, why should gay marriage be illegal?
New York, I’ll say it again — I am proud of you! Well done!

I am amazed and pleasantly surprised they actually did it.
Sometimes miracles happen, even with the dysfunctional NY State Legislature.
Clear skies, Alan
I’m a bit amazed myself. I’d like to see the same happen in Virginia, where I live, but I’m not holding my breath for it to happen anytime soon.
I hope things work out in Maryland next time they vote on it. Was pretty bummed when it failed the first time, everyone thought it was going to be a shoe-in for the fairly liberal state. But this was very happy news from New York!
I do as well Brett! Someday, maybe even Virginia might join the 21st century.
