Don’t fall for it

jewel August 29th, 2008

Work was all abuzz today about McCain’s pick for VP.  She’s young, a woman and has a story.  McCain is no doubt banking on her to bring in the women voters, particularly the bitter Hillary supporters.  Personally, I’m hoping that Hillary’s supporters are smarter than that.  While there are quite a few things I don’t like about Hillary Clinton, she is a strong woman and a force to be reckoned with.  She has spoken out in regards to women’s rights and issues and has long been an advocate for affordable health care.  And she was able to win over quite a lot of folks.  Also, she has spoken out in favor of evidence based science standards and a woman’s right to choose.  Sarah Palin is about as opposite as you can get from Clinton.  Of course maybe McCain is just trying to appear like the maverick he no longer is (if he ever really was) by choosing her. Bigfoot?

jewel August 15th, 2008

This alleged Bigfoot discovery was all the talk around the water cooler at work today. Yeah, color me skeptical.  I could barely contain my laughter when I heard about it.  Seriously?  Are the news outlets bored? Continue Reading »

Can we start doing this?

jewel July 8th, 2008

A Russian court just convicted Grigory Grabovoy of fraud for bilking people out of money by claiming he could raise the dead.  Like our own Silvia Browne and John Edward, this creep made a living preying on the desperate and the grieving.  People who are very vulnerable to snake oil salesmen.  Well, now he’s doing hard labor in prison.  When can we start convicting fraudsters like this in this country? Go California!

jewel May 16th, 2008

Good on them, I say! The California Supreme Court has declared gay marriage bans to be unconstitutional. Now if only the other states that do not allow same-sex marriages/unions would come to their senses and realize that the world isn’t going to end if we allow homosexual adults the same rights and privileges that their heterosexual counterparts get. Also on my wish list is to get rid of the incredibly unnecessary and discriminatory federal Defense of Marriage Act of 1996.

Ok, I’m ready for the writers strike to end now…

jewel February 3rd, 2008

I miss my TV shows…Heroes, Bones, Numb3rs…and I want them back.

Rumor has it there has been progress made in the talks, which is fantastic news, and the strike could end sometime this coming week. Of course, even if it does end it will be weeks before we get new stuff. *sigh*

Only the good die young

jewel January 24th, 2008

It’s been all over the news the past couple of days. There has been no escaping it. Heath Ledger is dead of, thus far, unknown causes. It makes me a bit sad, actually. When I got home on Tuesday and turned on my computer and started reading the news headlines, there it was. I was shocked. I’ve got to say, of all the celebrities that I would expect to hear such news about, Heath Ledger was not one of them. Continue Reading »

10 Years

jewel September 1st, 2007

It’s all over the news. It’s been 10 years since Princess Diana died in a car crash. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. I remember waking up to the news that she had died. Hubby and I were sitting at breakfast in Inverness, Scotland getting ready to head up to Rogart where I was going to take a Scottish Gaelic class. I don’t know what the news was like here in the US, but you couldn’t go anywhere in the UK without seeing piles of flowers left in her honor, although it was a bit less in Scotland than in England.

Apparently there are still those that think Di was murdered. A great big conspiracy. But what it was, was a tragic accident. And a lesson as to what can happen when drunk drivers drive at high speeds.

Bush Promises Help Rebuilding MN Bridge

jewel August 5th, 2007

So, Bush toured the disaster site of the Minnesota bridge collapse and promised federal help in rebuilding the bridge. Yeah, pardon me for being just a little skeptical. He promised the same thing to the victims of Katrina and they’re still waiting.

Meanwhile, our countries infrastructure is in great need for repair, but there is no money to do these repairs because much needed tax dollars have been diverted to other projects and politicians don’t want to raise taxes.
