Video Games Live

jewel July 11th, 2009

Last night, we went to see Video Games Live at Wolf Trap.  It was a really cool show!  It featured the National Symphony Orchestra who gave a flawless performance.

We got tickets on the lawn so that we could bring our cooler and snacks and beer.  Took some camping chairs so we wouldn’t have to sit on the ground.  We got there about 90 minutes prior to the show and we had our picnic and a beer and then sat back to enjoy the show.  And good stuff it was. Virginia Wine

jewel April 26th, 2009

In the spring and summer months, my husband and I periodically take a drive to a few of Virginia’s many wineries. There are dozens of them, so we haven’t even come close to visiting all of them yet. They all have their own styles and personalities and it’s fun to choose a few, every now and again, and see what they have to offer.

Yesterday, we took a trip to visit 4 wineries. Village Winery, Lost Creek Vineyard & Winery, Hidden Brook Winery and Fabbioli Cellars. I linked to the Virginia Wine pages rather than the individual winery websites here because the info given is consistent and compact. The individual winery websites can be found at the end of this post. Continue Reading »

A Lovely Day in DC

jewel February 8th, 2009

It’s been a long winter.  Not much in the way of snow so far, but it’s been miserably cold; not exactly conducive for me getting out of the house much.  This weekend, however, it has been GORGEOUS!  Temps in the mid 60′s, sunny.  A nice break.  So, we decided to get out of the house and enjoy our day!

I figured that living up here for 8 1/2 years without seeing the Lincoln Memorial was long enough, so with that in mind we jumped in the car, drove to the Vienna Metro station and took the metro into DC.  Getting off the metro at the Smithsonian was familiar enough; we’ve done that many times to visit the musuems.  Strangely, this is the first time we’ve done so with no intention of visiting any of the museums.  It was too nice a day to spend it indoors anyway.

Jim Henson’s Fantastic World

jewel August 2nd, 2008

We met some friends in DC today and went to the Jim Henson’s Fantastic World exhibit at the Smithsonian.  What a fun trip through childhood it was, too.  I grew up in the 70′s with the Muppet Show and Sesame Street.  Ah, good times.  Sadly, no photography was allowed, but that is typically the case with special exhibits like this and I respect that (unlike a couple people I saw). We boldly went…

jewel June 28th, 2008

Star Trek: The Experience To Star Trek: The Experience, while we were in Vegas. And it was fun. Ok, I admit, I’m a bit of a Trekker.

We had decided to stay an extra day in Vegas after TAM to do a couple Vegasy things. One of those things was spending most of Monday at the Las Vegas Hilton’s Star Trek: The Experience. We’ve been there before, but it’s been nearly 10 years and they’ve added quite a few things since then. Since our first trip, they’ve added a new ride – “Borg Invasion 4d” and a behind the scenes tour and several photo options. We went ahead and did all of it. Continue Reading »

Not quite in the zone

Since I decided to take today off work, I thought I should get out of the house and enjoy this gorgeous spring weather we’re having. So, I went to the zoo. I know I was just there last month but that was part of a field trip with the photography class I was taking. And, although I got some good panda and tiger shots, there was a lot I didn’t get to. So, today I went to get some shots of the animals I don’t normally photograph and just to see what I found. Continue Reading »

Spring at last

jewel May 13th, 2008

It finally feels like spring is actually here. I swear, I was beginning to think we were going to skip spring altogether and head straight into summer. It’s been cloudy and rainy and cool and I know we’ve needed the rain, but when the weather is better in London for more than a few days, I get depressed. Continue Reading »

A Great Day For the Zoo

jewel April 27th, 2008

Open wide!

Yesterday my photography class met at the zoo for our second field trip. I love the zoo. I’d love to go there more often. So, anyway, I cleared off my memory cars, charged the camera batteries and off we went. It was a beautiful morning. We got there around 8:30 and met by the panda’s. They were all out and chowing on some bamboo. Mmmmm…..breakfast, said my stomach, as I remembered I forgot to pack that granola bar. Continue Reading »

More about our best vacation ever

jewel December 22nd, 2007

Chichen Itza Panarama

As promised, here is a more in depth posting/review of our fantastic Mexico vacation. We both really needed a vacation and we chose the perfect one. In fact, I don’t remember the last time I came back from a vacation feeling this refreshed and rejuvenated. We had a blast and we both want to go back and explore more ruins.

Back from the best vacation ever

jewel December 19th, 2007

We got back last night from Cancun and it was, without a doubt, the best vacation ever.  Highlights include spending 2 days at Chichen Itza, a half a day at Tulum and swimming with dolphins at Xel Ha.  There was much good food and a fair amount of tropical beverages and we even found a Mexican beer that we liked!

I have about 600 pictures to process and it will take me a few days to do so, but once done I will upload the ones I like to my gallery and I will also be posting a more detailed report of the trip sometime in the next few days.

¡Muy bueno!
