I nearly forgot to blog about this…
On Sunday we went into DC to RFK Stadium to see the MLS Cup (New England Revolution vs. Houston Dynamo). What started out as a reasonably warm (read comfortable) day ended up being rather chilly on our (shady) side of the stadium. We were a bit under dressed, just having light jackets. Last night we went to a meetup in DC hosted by the Bad Astronomer himself and the infamous PZ Myers. They were both in town for some AU thing. Anyway, they both had some free time in the evening and they invited local readers to a meetup. It was fun. I think about 15 – 20 readers of their blogs showed up. We were the first ones there, getting there a around 8:30. It was a lot of fun. Food, drink and good conversation. Continue Reading »

We were on our way to lunch today when someone pulled up beside us at a traffic light and told us how much he liked the personalized plate on my car (SKEPTIC). It was cool. No one has ever commented on it to me. I’ve had a couple people comment on my license plate frame (Firefly) but never the plate itself.

Last night the company sponsored a trip to see DC United play against LA Galaxy at RFK stadium. It was a sold out event – no doubt because of the draw of David Beckham. I know he was the reason I went – free or not! This was my first attendance at any sporting event of that level, so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Continue Reading »

We went to the National Zoo today. It was so good to get out of the house – especially since we had both been confined to the house with a nasty cold for several days. It was hot in DC, but we had a good time. I even got some ok pics, which I posted in my gallery section.
Some highlights of our day were having a Violet Turaco “dive bomb” us several times in the indoor bird habitat. I tried to get some pictures of that bird in flight and I managed it ok, but they are not as good as I would like. We also got to see the tiger cubs frolic with each other just a bit. I think they are about a year old now, still pretty young and they do like to play. Also, one of the panda’s was also out and I got a few good photo’s there, as well.
I think I would like to go back again, maybe in the fall, and try to get some more shots when the animals are a bit more active. Even still, a good time was had.
